Four Day Special Tour
UK flag

This four day tour itinerary covers a lovely area taking in some very interesting places.

We would be based in Salisbury, Wiltshire for three nights where our accommodation would be in a unique 3 star hotel originally a coaching inn during the 17th Century. There has been an inn on this site since 1200 A.D. and it was probably built to accommodate the clergy and craftsmen overseeing the building of Salisbury Cathedral between 1220 and 1250 A.D.
The hotel is very interesting with rooms built around the cobbled courtyard where once stagecoach passengers alighted from the long and dusty journey to London. Now the courtyard is filled with a flower garden and fountain where guests can sit and enjoy a drink after a hectic day out and gather strength for the wonderful home cooked dinner that awaits. The rooms are all different with many interesting Medieval artefacts on display that were found when the hotel was modernised.

Day 1 - We enjoy a country drive to Salisbury a medieval City with its wonderful cathedral, cloisters and ancient City walls. En route we visit Windsor Castle, Eton School and Runnymede where King John was forced by the Barons to sign the Magna Carta in 1215. We will stay at the Red Lion hotel in the centre of Salisbury and very close to the cathedral. There will be time before dinner to explore Salisbury's ancient streets, hidden alleys and delightful shops.

Day 2 - After a hearty breakfast at the Red Lion we explore Salisbury Cathedral and visit the Chapter House to view the original Magna Carta signed by King John in 1215. Then we travel through the countryside visiting Old Sarum the ancient city which was left by the populace in 1220 due to constant severe weather and the need to expand farming in the valley below. On to see Stonehenge and Avebury en route to Marlborough a lovely market town with quaint shops, tiny cobbled alleyways and wonderful architecture. Afternoon tea at Pollys famous teashop before we return for evening dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 - After breakfast we leave en route to Bath where we will enjoy time at leisure to visit Bath Abbey, the Roman baths and pump room, Sally Lunn's Huguenot bakery, the City gardens and Pulteney Bridge. This is a wonderful City to explore and much can be seen in a day.

Day 4 - En route to Stratford via the Cotswolds through pretty villages such as Burford, Upper and Lower Slaughter, Bourton on the Water, Chipping Campden. This will be a gentle meander and we will arrive at Stratford around lunchtime. We will have time to explore the birthplace of William Shakespeare, to see the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and lovely riverside gardens.
We return to London early evening and say farewell.
